DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its monthly volleyball award winners and Salisbury University sophomore Amanda Chew and senior Hailey Dougherty were named the ECAC Division III South Region Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month, respectively, for the month of September.
Chew earned monthly honors due to her fast start to the 2019 season in which she led the Capital Athletic Conference with 233 kills and 4.02 kills per set in September. The outside hitter has also been named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Offensive Player of the Week on two separate occasions and is hitting .214 with 29 service aces and 4.7 points per set through the end of the month. In September, Chew tallied kill-dig double-doubles in seven of 11 matches during the month.
Dougherty has gotten off to an equally fast start in her senior season, leading the CAC with 300 digs and 5.17 digs per set through the opening month. The defensive specialist/libero also picked up two CAC Defensive Player of the Week awards so far in 2019. Dougherty recorded double-digit digs in 10 of Salisbury's 11 matches in September.
The volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, October 5 when it travels to St. Mary's to take on the Seahawks beginning at 2 p.m.
