FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University volleyball team swept the first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) weekly awards of the 2019 season as senior defensive specialist Hailey Dougherty and sophomore outside hitter Amanda Chew were named the CAC Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Chew earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after she posted double-digit kills in every match finishing as the team-leader in each match. Her 59 total kills (4.21 per set) was a team-best and for her efforts, she named MVP of the Sea Gull Classic. Her 19 kills against Susquehanna on August 30 were the second most in her career in a single match. Chew hit .322 for the week and collected 36 digs (2.57 per set).
Dougherty picked up CAC Defensive Player of the Week laurels after she totaled 87 digs (6.21 per set) throughout the Sea Gull Classic. Her 46 digs on Friday night helped her move into 10th all-time in Salisbury volleyball history as she built on that number and now sits at 1,355 for her career in the maroon and gold.
Chew and Dougherty helped the Salisbury volleyball program sweep the Sea Gull Classic and start the year 4-0 for the first time since the 2014 season.
