DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference released the Women's Volleyball Player of the Month awards for September 2018 on Thursday morning. Salisbury University senior middle blocker Gianna Savarese earned recognition from the organization as she was named the Division III South Defensive Player of the Month.
Savarese has helped the Sea Gulls to an 11-6 overall record and a 1-1 record in Capital Athletic Conference play. She has totaled 64 total blocks for the maroon and gold, which ranks her first not only the team but in the CAC as well. Savarese is averaging a mark of 1.07 blocks per set, which also ranks her first on both the team and in the conference as well.
On a national scale Savarese's numbers are good enough to rank her in the top-15 in total blocks while ranking in the top-30 in blocks per set. She is currently tied for 15th in Division III with 64 blocks while her 1.07 blocks per set mark is good enough for 22nd nationally.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, October 6 when it travels to Swarthmore College to take on the Garnet. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
