YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University volleyball team has been picked by the Capital Athletic conference coaches to place second in the conference in 2016 with the release of the league's preseason poll.
Salisbury earned 71 points and one first-place vote, trailing only Christopher Newport University, which grabbed 80 points and eight first-place votes. The University of Mary Washington took the final first-place vote and 67 points to round out the top three in the poll.
Salisbury is coming off a 24-8 campaign in 2015, and lost just one senior to graduation from the squad that advanced to the CAC title match. The Sea Gulls won 10-straight matches heading into that CAC championship match, where Christopher Newport came away with the title.
The final seven spots in the CAC poll were held by Marymount (Va.) University with 56 points, Frostburg State University (45 points), St. Mary's College of Maryland (43), York College of Pennsylvania (36), Southern Virginia University (21), Wesley College (19), and Penn State University-Harrisburg (12).
The Sea Gulls open the 2016 season on Friday, September 1 as they travel to the Gettysburg College tournament, where they will meet the host Bullets and Greensboro College.
