INDIANAPOLIS – In what has already been a banner year in the history of the Salisbury University volleyball program, another first was added on Monday as the NCAA announced the 2012 Division III Volleyball field, and not only will the Sea Gulls participate, for the eighth time in program history, but they will host an NCAA regional for the first time ever.
The regional begins on Friday, Nov. 9 with Maggs Physical Activities Center playing host to eight teams vying for a spot in the national championship weekend in Holland, Mich.
Salisbury (34-3) will open play against Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) College on Friday, the game time is to be announced. It will be one of four matches to be played on Friday; the full slate of regional match-ups is listed below.
The Sea Gulls have never met Mt. St. Mary, but have played three of the other teams coming to Salisbury this weekend during the 2012 season. Salisbury topped Johns Hopkins University and Neumann University, earlier this year, and suffered one of their three losses to Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
Salisbury holds a combined 71-33 all-time record against the teams playing in this weekend's event.
Eight regional tournaments will be played this weekend, with the eight winners advancing to the championship weekend at Hope College, beginning Friday, Nov. 16.
