Women's tennis falls at NYU

NEW YORK – The Salisbury University women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 contest at No. 19 New York University on Sunday.

The Sea Gulls (3-2) picked up four games in doubles play with sophomore Laura Brown and freshman Sarah Dover falling 8-2 at No. 3 while the pairs of junior Annika Kezman and sophomore Sydney Soto along with senior Taylor Cooper and Jordan Schaefer lost by 8-1 scores at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

Schaefer's No. 5 singles match was the closest of singles play, falling 7-5, 6-1. Senior Shannon Hickman at No. 6 and Kezman at No. 1 each won six games in their singles matches, each dropping 6-4, 6-2 decisions.

Brown fell at No. 2 by a 6-3, 6-2 decision while Soto was defeated 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Cooper fell at No. 3 by a 6-1, 6-0 score as the Violets (5-0) finished off the sweep.

Salisbury will head west for its next match, during spring break, traveling to Occidental College on March 18.
