SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team remained perfect on the 2019 season with an 8-1 win against visiting Catholic University of America on Friday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls (3-0) began the afternoon in the Indoor Tennis Center with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Senior Taylor Cooper and sophomore Laura Brown made a quick run at No. 2 doubles for an 8-1 win, while junior Jordan Schaefer and freshman Sarah Dover picked up an 8-2 win shortly thereafter at No. 3.
Kezman rolled through her No. 1 singles match, getting the first point on the board with a 6-0, 6-1 win just moments before Brown sealed the team match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2.
After taking the first set in her No. 4 match, 6-1, Ariana Leggio dropped the second set to Colleen McLaughlin, 6-2. McLaughlin was able to outlast Leggio in the super tiebreaker, 13-11 for the win.
Junior Kayla Allen earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 and senior Shannon Hickman earned a comeback win at No. 3. After dropping the opening set 6-3 and trailing in the second 4-1, she roared back to win the second set 7-5 and took the super tiebreaker, 10-7.
Freshman Kathryn Allen earned her first collegiate win, picking up the final point at No. 6, winning the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2), before closing out the match with a 6-3 win in the second set.
The Sea Gulls will be away from home for their next six matches, next traveling to The College of New Jersey on Saturday, March 9, beginning at 4 p.m.
