Following NCAA tourney run, Sea Gulls finish season at No. 2 in IWLCA poll

GRAND LAKE, Colo – The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team, following its run to the NCAA Division III national championship game, finish the 2012 campaign No. 2 in the IWLCA top 20 coaches poll.

The Sea Gulls (22-1) received 378 points in the final poll, which featured different teams in each of the top five spots from the last poll which was released before the NCAA tournament on May 8.

Moving into the top spot is Trinity (Conn.) College (21-1) after the Bantams claimed their first national championship. Trinity received all 20 first-place votes and 400 points in this week's poll, moving up from No. 5. This is the first time in over two months that a different squad than the Sea Gulls was atop the poll. Salisbury had been ranked No. 1 in the six previous polls before its 8-7 loss to Trinity in the national championship game on May 20.

Finishing the season at No. 3 is the State University of New York at Cortland (20-2), which was one of the other squads to advance to the season's final weekend in Montclair, N.J. The Red Dragons slid down one spot and collected 360 points in this week's poll.

Moving up two spots to No. 4 was the team the Sea Gulls defeated to advance to the national championship game, Middlebury College (15-5), with 337 points. Gettysburg College (19-2) rounds out the top five, moving down two spots, receiving 311 points.

The Capital Athletic Conference placed three member institutions in the final coaches poll. Following Salisbury is the University of Mary Washington (14-5) at No. 10, up one spot from the previous poll. Following the NCAA tournament, York (Pa.) College (14-5) fell three spots to No. 12, after falling in the first round of the tournament.
