How we got here

After finishing the season with an 8-6 conference record to earn the No. 3 seed in the CAC tournament, the Sea Gulls dispatched No. 6 York College of Pennsylvania in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday night, 67-48. Megan Konig led the charge in one of the most dominating team performances of the season, tying a season-high with 19 points.

How they got here

Southern Virginia finished the regular season with a 10-4 conference record to earn the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament. The Knights hosted No. 7 seed Penn State University-Harrisburg in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday night and secured a 69-62 victory to move to the next round. Alexus Barnes scored a team-high 18 points to help lead her team past the conference rivals.

Last time we met

The Sea Gulls hosted the Knights on February 9 at Maggs Physical Activities Center. Salisbury built an early 10-point lead in the first quarter, but Southern Virginia climbed back to take 28-23 halftime lead. The game remained close throughout and the Knights were able to force overtime with a Bryndie Ballam putback at the buzzer. Southern Virginia scored eight of the first nine overtime points and held on to win, 67-60.

Scouting the Knights

The Knights have perhaps the best inside game in the conference, leading the CAC with 45.6 rebounds per game and 6.1 blocks per game. They are also second in the conference, averaging 14.8 assists and 67.9 points per game. Their biggest weakness lies on the perimeter, where they are shooting a league-low 26.7 percent.

Tall order

If the Sea Gulls hope to make it to the championship game on Saturday, they'll have to find a way to shut down Southern Virginia's top weapon in Katie Garrish, who was recently named conference Player of the Year. Garrish, who broke a school record with 24 rebounds in the opening round over Penn State-Harrisburg on Tuesday night, led the CAC during the regular season by averaging 13.9 rebounds while finishing second overall with 17.7 points per game.

Outside chance

Southern Virginia has struggled to score from deep all season. On the other hand, Salisbury has started to find its stride from beyond the arc, shooting 35.6 percent (21-for-59) over its past four games.

Up Next

The winner of Thursday's game will move on to the title game against the winner of No. 1 seed Christopher Newport University and No. 4 seed University of Mary Washington. The Championship will be played on Saturday, February 23 at the highest remaining seed.
