HIGHLIGHT VIDEO: Track & Field Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet
The Salisbury University track and field program opened its 2019 outdoor season on Saturday, March 2. The Sea Gulls saw standout performances on both the men’s and women’s side in the first competition of the 2019 season. Alexandra Jakubowski turned in a solid all-around performance for the maroon and gold as she recorded a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw, a fourth-place finish in the javelin, and placed third in the 200-meter dash. Jakubowski recorded a throw of 68 feet one inch in the hammer while posting a mark of 74 feet and four inches in the javelin. In the 200-meter she came home in a time of 30.52 seconds to earn the finish. Meanwhile, in 800-meter run both Liana Foianini and Brianna Murray turned in solid performances as Foianini came home in a time of 2:34.30 to place third while Murray placed fourth with a time of 2:42.26. In the pole vault Alyssa Collier earned the victory, clearing the bar at a height of nine feet six point 25 inches. Abby Potter and Jillian Swaim rounded out the women’s team performances placing first and second respectively in the Steve Berstler Jr. 5,000-meter run. Potter came home in 19:58.37 while Swaim completed the race in 20:07.05. On the men’s side Michael Millemann earned the victory in the javelin recording a toss of 165 feet and five inches. Justin Williams garnered a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at a time of 55.27 seconds. In the men’s 800-meter Joey Wiggins finished second overall finishing the race in a time of 2:07.37. Ryan Eville, Nick Plummer, Jeromy Green, and Christian Ciatteti rounded out the men’s performances finishing second, fourth, fifth, and seventh in the Steve Berstler Jr. 5,000-meter run. Eville led the way with a time of 16:33.59 while Plummer, Green, and Ciatteti finished the race in times of 16:59.39, 17:16.29, and 18:16.01. Salisbury returns to action on Thursday, March 14 when it travels to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete in the three day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
