Salisbury travels to Coastal Carolina Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Salisbury University track & field teams hit the road for the first time in the outdoor season, traveling to the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Friday and Saturday, competing primarily against Division I and II squads.


The Salisbury men posted four top-five finishes, paced by senior Nathan Austin, who completed the 1,500-meter run in 4:04.93, to take second, just four seconds off the top time.

Junior Dylan Burkett grabbed a third-place finish in the discus throw, covering 159' 1" with his top throw, which is just four feet shy of the school record. Classmate Jeffrey Jordan placed 11th with a top throw of 143' 4".

Freshman Jason White cleared 12' 7.5" in the pole vault to place second.

In the seeded section of the 1,500-meter run, junior George Martinez brought home a fourth-place finish in 4:01.00 and classmate Thomas Burke finished eighth in 4:03.22.

In the seeded section of the 800-meter run, Martinez placed eighth in a time of 1:58.51 and Austin took 14th in 2:00.16.

Sophomore Xavier Stinson tied for sixth in the seeded section of the high jump, clearing 6' 4.75".

In the shot put, junior Ryan DiPascale placed sixth, with his top effort covering 48' 11.75" and Burkett took 12th with a top distance of 46' 6".

Freshman Carmelo Barresi placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.79 seconds and classmate Will Fountain finished seventh in the 400-meter dash in 51.79 seconds.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Eric Wood finished eighth in 9:50.4.

Junior Devon Hopkins placed eighth in the seeded 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.10 seconds, and 14th in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.81 seconds.

Freshman Elijah Harris earned a 12th-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, in a time of 17.52 seconds, while junior Blake Bussard placed 14th in 17.67 seconds. Bussard also finished 15th in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.99 seconds.

Senior Nick Hanifee also took a 12th-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 34:11.50 and Burkett placed 14th in the hammer throw, with his top distance covering 150' 10".


Senior Alex Greissinger finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.43, to finish second leading the women's team, followed by junior Ashley Reilly, who took sixth in 1:09.45. Freshman Stephanie Bidle grabbed a 12th-place finish, in 1:12.44, and classmate Abby Richards took 14th, in 1:15.47.

Sophomore Lauren Snyder came home in 1:02.18 in the 400-meter dash to finish fourth, while junior Ameera Teal finished in sixth with a time of 1:02.93.

Snyder grabbed a ninth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in a time of 27.38 seconds.

Salisbury had three of the top-seven finishers in the 800-meter run, led by freshman Jasmin Daniels (2:26.19) in third while classmates Delaney Tregoning took fourth (2:26.55) and Makiah Green finished seventh (2:27.64).

Richards also placed ninth in 100-meter hurdles in 16.60 seconds.

Freshman Lauren Rogers earned a 13th-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4' 11" while Tregoning took 14th, clearing 4' 9".

Sophomore Laura Hartman finished the 1,500-meter run in 5:10.91 to place 14th, and junior Olivia Cloud placed 13th in the 5,000-meter run in 19:26.48.

Freshman Kathy Kammerer cleared 9' 6.25" in the pole vault for a 14th-place finish.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action in two weeks, traveling to the Goucher Invitational on March 29.
