NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After concluding its season on Sunday, the No. 18 Salisbury University softball team had three members named to the 2012 NCAA Newport News Regional All-Tournament team.
Senior hurler Erika Brittingham, junior outfielder Lindsay McCabe and sophomore first baseman Harley Hill were named to the 2012 NCAA Newport News Regional All-Tournament team after their performances this past week.
Brittingham went 2-1 in the circle for the Sea Gulls, including Salisbury's defeat of top-ranked Emory College where she struck out five Eagle batters. The Georgetown, Del., native finished the tournament with a 0.40 ERA. In the batter's box, Brittingham averaged a .308 and batted in five runs.
McCabe hit the game winner against Emory, with a single to left-center field to give the Gulls the go-ahead run in its 2-0 victory. The right fielder went 5-for-13 (.417 average) with one double, three RBIs and added three runs.
Hill went 8-for-16 throughout the tournament with two doubles, one triple and three RBIs. The sophomore went 4-for-4 against the Eagles and 3-for-5 in the Gulls' 11-0 victory over Farmingdale State College. The Huntingtown, Md., native concluded the tournament with a .500 batting average and a .750 slugging percentage.
Salisbury had a remarkable 37-7 season where it went undefeated in the Capital Athletic Conference and earned its 17th CAC title. The Gulls' longest winning streak consisted of 25 games as Salisbury entered its 17th NCAA tournament appearance.
