SKILLMAN, N.J. – Though they graduated nearly a month ago, two members of the Salisbury University men's tennis team continue to cause a "racquet". On Wednesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that Scott Burtzlaff (Clarksville, Md.) and Evan Thomas (Salisbury, Md.) were named to the 2010 ITA Division III All-America team for their doubles play throughout the season.
The pair advanced to the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships in their final season as Sea Gulls. They dominated as a duo throughout the season and finished ranked ninth in the nation, which earned them the All-America honors. Burtzlaff and Thomas certainly left their mark on the men's tennis program, wrapping up their careers with a 41-14 doubles record. This past season, they were part of a team which posted a 14-7 (5-1 Capital Athletic Conference) record and finished as the runner-up in the CAC championships.
To be eligible for ITA All-America honors, a player must meet
one of the following criteria: win one round at the NCAA doubles
tournament, earn a top four seed in the NCAA doubles tournament,
finish in the top 10 in the final ITA rankings, win their ITA fall
regional tournament or win a first-round match at the ITA National
Small College Championships.
