SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings were recently
released and the Salisbury University men’s tennis program
jumped seven spots from No. 21 to No. 14.
The Sea Gulls (10-4, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) are coming
off a week in which they claimed six victories, including five over
a two-day span. The biggest win of the week was an upset of then
No. 13-ranked Kalamazoo College 5-4. In this week’s poll,
Salisbury is ranked one spot ahead of Kalamazoo.
Middlebury College moved up four spots to take ownership of the
No. 1 ranking in the country. Washington (Mo.) University-St. Louis
is currently ranked No. 2, with Emory University one spot behind at
No. 3. California Lutheran University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
College round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The Sea Gulls next two matches will be against opponents ranked
in the top 30. The Gulls are set to square off with No. 23
Hampden-Sydney College this Friday at 3 p.m., in a neutral
site competition in Fredericksburg, Va. Following that match,
the maroon and gold will make the same trek back on Wednesday to
Fredericksburg for a CAC contest against No. 26 University of Mary
Washington. The contest will have huge implications on the upcoming
CAC tournament (April 18-23).
