Men’s Soccer Drops Close 2-1 Decision to Carnegie Mellon

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team dropped a close 2-1 match to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans on Friday to open the annual Elmer Lord Tournament at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium. 


  • Final Score: Carnegie Mellon 2, Salisbury 1 

  • Records: Carnegie Mellon (1-0) | Salisbury (0-1) 

  • Location: Sea Gull Soccer Stadium - Salisbury, Md.  

  • The Short Story- Carnegie Mellon scored two goals early to gain momentum. Salisbury fought hard to cut the Tartan lead in half. The Sea Gulls kept the pressure up looking to send the game into overtime but the Tartans held off the Sea Gull charge.  


  • Carnegie Mellon scored their two goals back-to-back in the first fifteen minutes of the game. 

  • The first Tartan goal came off a run from Elliot Cohen at the 10:13 minute mark.  

  • Patrick Kollman was the second Tartan to score, only four minutes after Cohen at 14:54.  

  • George Fotiou tallied the lone Salisbury goal after getting through two Tartan defenders taking it to baseline and sneaking it past the CMU goalie.  

  • Ryan Spadin got some excellent chances to tie the game up at two, including a goal that was called back due to an offsides 

  • Dolph Hegewicsh had a last second opportunity to nod it up at two, but the clock hit zero before his shot was released.  


  • Offensively, Salisbury outshot the Tartans, 15-11 

  • Carnegie Mellon had six corner kicks compared to Salisbury's four 

  • The Sea Gulls defense shut out the Tartans in the second half. 



  • Freshman George Fotiou made his collegiate debut with his first career goal 

  • Fellow freshman, Gabe Dunn, recorded five saves in his first game in the maroon and gold.  



  • Salisbury will wrap up the Elmer Lord Tournament on Saturday when they host the Gallaudet Bison. 

  • The match is set for 3 p.m. following the Carnegie Mellon and St. Mary's game.
