Men's soccer ranked No. 9/18 in new rankings

SALISBURY, Md. – Entering the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday for a semifinal match, the Salisbury University men's soccer team will compete as a higher-ranked squad, according to the new rankings released Tuesday by and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Sea Gulls (12-1-5) claimed a lone victory last week against Wesley College, 3-1, to seal up the top-seed in the conference tournament and be named regular-season champions for the fourth-consecutive year. With the victory, SU has reached another high point in the season, being ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA ranking. In the poll, the Gulls went from No. 19 last week to No. 18 this week, receiving 192 points.

In the NSCAA ranking, SU is the only team from the CAC ranked, while in the poll, the Gulls are joined by Christopher Newport University. The Captains landed at No. 20 this week, making a two-spot jump from the last ranking.

Still holding down the top spot in both polls since the beginning of the season is Messiah College, with an unblemished 17-0-1 record.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Wednesday, November 5, as top-seeded Salisbury gets set to host a conference semifinal match against fifth-seeded Christopher Newport. First touch is set for 2 p.m.
