YORK, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Drew Staedeli of the Salisbury University men's soccer team was named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Staedeli is receiving the honor for the second time this season, as he helped the Gulls record their second shutout of the week Saturday afternoon giving Salisbury 10 total through 15 games. He made eight saves throughout the two matches.
Against Marymount (Va.) University, he recorded five saves, two of which were crucial in the opening 10 minutes to keep the Saints off the scoreboard.
Against Frostburg State University, he tallied three saves to collect his ninth complete shutout of the season, moving his goals-against average to 0.34, good enough for seventh best in the country.
Staedeli and the Sea Gulls return to action on Wednesday, October 22, for senior day against Christopher Newport University at the SU Soccer Complex at 3:30 p.m.
