Gulls land at No. 16 in first poll

MINNEAPOLIS – With two weeks of men's soccer in the books, released its first top-25 poll of the season, as Salisbury University came in at No. 16, the organization announced Tuesday night.

The Sea Gulls have gone 3-0-1 in their opening four games of the 2014 campaign, while claiming two tournament trophies. Through the initial stretch, Salisbury has found the back of the net 16 times. Leading the attack so far this season is senior forward Matt Greene, who has totaled 12 points. The starting captain has recorded points in all four games.

The defense for Salisbury recorded two-consecutive shutouts this weekend at the Seahawk Classic, while senior captain Kyle Westbrook earned Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his 180-minute effort in the backfield.

Also joining Salisbury from the CAC in the top 25 is Christopher Newport University at No. 14. The Captains have a 4-0 record to start the season, receiving 238 points in the poll. York College of Pennsylvania is receiving votes this week with 14 points.

The Gulls take the field on Saturday, September 13 for their next contest, as Salisbury welcomes North Carolina Wesleyan College to the SU Soccer Complex. First touch is set for 3 p.m.
