SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University men's soccer team picked up its third Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season on Wednesday with a 3-0 win over Wesley College.
Salisbury (8-2-2, 3-1 CAC) open the scoring in the first half on a goal by junior midfielder Jimmy Mundy. In the 32nd minute of the half, freshman forward Matt Greene took a cross from senior forward Ian Wilson and tapped a pass to Mundy, who was standing just inside the 18-yard box. Mundy ripped a goal-rattling shot into the top left corner for his second score of the season.
The Gulls went into the half with the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Sea Gulls picked up a couple of insurance goals near the end of the game. Junior forward Phil Bucheimer scored his first goal of the season as he took a cross from Wilson and slipped a shot past the keeper to give Salisbury a 2-0 advantage.
Less than 15 minutes later, in the 88th minute, the Gulls put the game away with a goal off the foot of Greene. Freshman forward Cody Webster had the ball in the 18-yard box before dropping a pass back to Greene. Greene booted a shot past the keeper to finish the play and give the Sea Gulls their third goal of the day.
The Sea Gull defense held Wesley (5-4-5, 1-1-4 CAC) to only two shots on goal for the game. Junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak earned his fifth win of the season in the shutout while making two saves.
Salisbury will be on the road for its next game as the team travels to Richard Stockton on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match. The Gulls will be at home again on Monday to take on CAC opponent Marymount (Va.) University.
