BALTIMORE – The organization Inside Lacrosse released its weekly media poll on Wednesday morning and Salisbury University was unanimously voted the top team in the nation to reatin its spot and remain atop the Division III lacrosse world.
The Sea Gulls, who turned in a 1-0 week downing Stevenson University 14-9 on March 9, earned all 13 first-place votes and totaled 260 points to remain No. 1.
The remainder of the top five saw change after former No. 1, now No. 7, Wesleyan (Conn.) University (169), fell to No. 12 Bates College (107) over the weekend. The Rochester Institute of Technology (246) took over as No. 2 in the nation while Tufts University (231) and Amherst College (215) moved to No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
Capital Athletic Conference rival York College of Pennsylvania, which totaled 209 points, made its first appearance of the season in the top five rounding out the group. Fellow CAC opponent Christopher Newport University held at No. 15 in the nation.
Salisbury returns to action on Friday, March 15 when it hosts Illinois Wesleyan University in a Friday night showdown at Sea Gull Stadium. Faceoff is set for 5 p.m.
