Men's basketball takes down Southern Virginia
The No. 12 Salisbury University men’s basketball team collected a 77-67 win against visiting Southern Virginia University on senior day on Saturday, February 11 at Maggs Physical Activities Center. Senior Wyatt Smith scored a team-high 17 points in the victory, while pulling down nine rebounds. He was one of four Sea Gulls to score in double figures. Smith scored 13 of his points after halftime, including the final four field goals for the team as Salisbury held off the Knights’ late push. Junior Jordan Brooks scored a career-high 16 points in the game, hitting 5-of-9 from the floor and throwing down a dunk in transition off a feed from Chad Barcikowski, who came up with the steal. The steal was one of four for Barcikowski, who scored 11 points in the game, including three from beyond the arc. Freshman Nick Gittings came off the bench to score 10, including a quick putback just before the buzzer at the end of the first half to give Salisbury a 21-point lead at the break. Salisbury got 39 points from its reserve players in the contest. The Sea Gulls hit the road for their next Capital Athletic Conference contest, facing St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Wednesday, February 15.
