CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Salisbury University field hockey team has proven on many occasions that it does not only excel on the field, but also in the classroom. On Monday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Team Awards and Salisbury was one of 129 teams to earn the honor.
In order to garner the award, a squad must have a team grade-point average of 3.0 or better. The Sea Gulls were among the best in the country, with a 3.61 team GPA in the fall, which ranked fourth among all Division III teams, and tied for sixth among field hockey teams from all divisions.
This marks the 12th-consecutive season that the Sea Gulls have earned the honor.
Monday's award is the first of three academic honors that the NFHCA will be releasing this week. On Tuesday, the National Academic Squad will be released, followed on Wednesday with the Scholars of Distinction.
