Anthony Johnson returns for his seventh season total on the SU staff in 2019. He serves as the co-offensive coordinator, running backs coach and the program’s director of player development.
Johnson helped Salisbury become the nation’s top rushing offense in 2018. The Sea Gulls rushed for 3,834 yards and 348.5 yards per game in 2018.
Johnson’s running backs aided the eighth-best rushing offense in 2017. As a unit, Salisbury gained 3,121 yards and 283.7 rushing yards per contest while scoring 37 times on the ground.
Prior to returning to Salisbury, Johnson served as an assistant coach at Division I Central Connecticut State University coaching the running backs and kick returners in 2016.
In 2015, he was Salisbury’s running backs coach in their first season in the NJAC, when they claimed the conference championship and finished second in the nation in rushing offense.
Before returning to Salisbury in 2015, Johnson spent four years at Division II Cheyney University. HE served as the offensive coordinator from 2010-2013 before being promoted to head coach prior to the 2014 season.
Johnson was an All-ACFC performer and Offensive Player of the Year for his 2006 senior season while winning two ACFC championships and playing in two NCAA tournaments with the Gulls. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Salisbury University.
Coach Johnson is the primary recruiter for Baltimore County, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties in Maryland as well as Monmouth and Ocean Counties in New Jersey.
