PITMAN, N.J. – The New Jersey Athletic Conference released its weekly football awards for the week ending October 6 on Sunday. For the second consecutive week Salisbury University had a player recognized by the organization as sophomore linebacker Maurice Harris was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week. It is the first time this season that the Sea Gulls have had a defensive player recognized.
Harris aided in Salisbury's thrilling 27-24 overtime victory over Christopher Newport University on October 6 totaling a team-best 11 tackles including seven solo as well as recording two tackles for loss, another team-best, and one sack. Harris also forced a fumble to help the Gulls to their fifth straight win and a 4-0 mark in NJAC play.
Harris is part of a defense currently surrendering an average of 9.0 points per game, 203.8 yards per game, 190.2 passing yards per game, and 13.6 rush yards per game. Against the Captains the Gulls limited Christopher Newport to 318 total yards including surrendering just 46 yards on the ground on 32 attempts.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, October 13 when it hosts Montclair State University for the Sea Gulls' homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
