Sea Gulls keep No. 21 ranking in poll

MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University football team held strong at No. 21 in the latest Top 25 poll for the second-straight week, the organization announced.

The Sea Gulls kept their ranking after a 20-point, fourth-quarter comeback on Saturday, defeating Frostburg State University, 28-27. Trailing 27-7 heading into the final quarter, junior Ryan Jones threw three touchdowns, including the game-winning score to senior Isaiah Taylor to finish the game. Taylor caught five passes for 93 yards in the fourth quarter, alone, to help lead the comeback.

Salisbury earned 105 points in the poll, edging out No. 22 Whitworth University (104 points).

No. 11 Wesley College (382 points) joins the Sea Gulls as the only two New Jersey Athletic Conference teams in the rankings, while No. 1 the University of Mount Union (619 points and 19 first-place votes) continues to hold the top spot. No. 2 Linfield College (606 points and six first-place votes), No. 3 the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (565 points), and No. 4 the University of St. Thomas (538 points) also kept their rankings from a week ago, while the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater moved up one spot to No. 5 to round out the top-five teams.

With the win over Frostburg, Salisbury earned the NJAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament and will take on No. 25 the State University of New York at Cortland in a first-round matchup. The Sea Gulls travel to Cortland on Saturday, November 21 for a 12 p.m., kickoff.
