ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Salisbury University football team, which has won the Empire 8 Athletic Conference title in each of its first two seasons in the league, has been selected by the conference coaches to earn a third-straight title as the league announced the results of its preseason coaches' poll on Monday.
Salisbury collected seven first-place votes and 49 points, six points clear of St. John Fisher College, which was picked to finish second, with 43 points and the remaining first-place vote. The distribution of points and first-place votes for Salisbury and St. John Fisher is exactly as it was prior to the 2012 season.
Alfred University, which finished one game behind Salisbury in 2012, is picked to finish third with 35 points followed by Buffalo State University (28 points) and Ithaca College (28), Utica College (20), Frostburg State University (14) and Hartwick College (7).
The Sea Gulls open the 2013 season on Saturday, Sept. 7, hosting Christopher Newport University at 6 p.m. Salisbury will open Empire 8 play at Utica on Oct. 5.
