Carter, Hamby earn Team of the Week honors for second time

MINNEAPOLIS – Salisbury University junior cornerback Andre Carter and sophomore punter Kyle Hamby have been named to the Team of the Week for the second time this season, the website announced Tuesday.

Carter recovered an Alfred fumble and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown in the No. 7 Sea Gulls' 24-21 win over the then-No. 21 Saxons on Saturday. Carter's fourth career touchdown made it a 14-0 game in the second quarter. He also posted a game-high three passes broken up.

Hamby placed a career-high four of his five punts inside the Alfred 20-yard line. Hamby averaged 48.4 yards per punt and boomed a 64-yarder in the second quarter. 

Carter has 22 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, in seven games this season. He leads the team with 15 passes broken up and two fumble recoveries.

Hamby has placed 15 of 28 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line this season. He is second in Division III with a 43.7 yards-per punt average and has three punts of over 60 yards.

Carter earned Team of the Week honors on Oct. 2 while Hamby was named to the team on Oct. 16.

The Team of the Week is's weekly honor roll, recognizing the top performances at 14 positions from the previous week.

Salisbury (6-1, 4-0 Empire 8) travels to Ithaca, N.Y., and Ithaca College for a noon game on Saturday.
