Smith named First-Team All-American

MINNEAPOLIS – Salisbury University senior offensive lineman Alex Smith earned another accolade this week as he was named a First-Team All-American.

The Madison, N.J., native had previously picked up first-team All-Empire 8 Conference, All-East Region first-team and American Football Coaches Association All-American honors.

Smith was one of the keys on the offensive line, which paved the way for the Sea Gulls (11-2) to rush for a program-record 4,596 yards, with Salisbury's 353.3 yards per game ranking second in the nation.

The Salisbury offensive line allowed just 13 quarterback sacks this season as the Gulls threw for 1,263 yards.

Smith is just the eighth Salisbury player to earn All-American honors and the third to be named to the first team. He is the first offensive player to be named to the first team.
