WACO, Texas – The Salisbury University football team is No. 13 in the America Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, the organization announced Monday.
SU (9-1, 7-0 Empire 8) defeated Frostburg State University, 49-7, Saturday in the 13th annual Regents Cup game to win the Empire 8 title. The victory gave the Sea Gulls their first conference crown since winning back-to-back Atlantic Central Football Conference championships in 2004 and 2005.
The Sea Gulls received 573 points in the poll, 12 behind 12th-ranked California Lutheran University.
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the University of St. Thomas flipped positions as the Nos. 3 and 4 teams, garnering 933 and 923 points, respectively.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (41) and University of Mount Union (one) shared first-place votes and were the top two teams with 1,049 and 1,007 points, respectively.
SU hosts Western New England University in the first round of the NCAA tournament this Saturday at noon.
