Video: Baseball vs Penn State-Harrisburg
The Salisbury University baseball team returned to Sea Gull Baseball Stadium on Saturday, May 12, to take on Penn State Harrisburg in game two of the Capital Athletic Conference championship series. The Sea Gulls jumped to an early lead on this Jack Decker RBI single to score Justin Meekins from third base in the top of the first inning. Austin Heenan got the nod for the maroon and gold and worked 6 1/3 innings on the mound, striking out five batters and allowing only two hits. Heenan’s teammates continued to provide some cushion for their starter, including the solo home run by Matt Padeway on the first pitch he saw to start the top of the second inning. The defense did its part as well, including this sliding catch by Colby Dean to end the bottom of the second and keep the Lions out of the run column. The Sea Gulls ran into some trouble in the eighth inning as their lead shrunk to three runs, but Wes Whitlock was able to get a strikeout and a ground out to limit the damage. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Whitlock forced a flyout to right field on a 2-2 delivery to end the game and give Salisbury its third straight CAC championship and sixth in the last seven years. The conference title earns the Sea Gulls an automatic bid into this year’s NCAA tournament. The team will await the results of the tournament field, set to be released early Monday morning, to find out who its opponent will be and in what region it will play later this week.
