Grasso earns ABCA/Rawlings All-American honors, named Player of the Year

SALISBURY, Md. – The organization American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings released the 2017 Division III All-America Teams this morning. The honorees were announced at the opening ceremony of the NCAA Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin. Salisbury University senior Pete Grasso was recognized by the organization as he  was named the organization's National Player of the Year and earned First Team All-American honors.

Grasso turned in an outstanding senior year campaign for the maroon and gold from the field, the mound, and from the plate. He played in 45 of 46 games, totaled team-highs in hits (72), batting average (.381), and at-bats (189). On the mound Grasso was equally as impressive posting a 9-1 record with a team best 2.17 ERA while totaling 89 strikeouts and allowing only 22 earned runs. In the field Grasso totaled 75 putouts, 94 assists, and helped turn 19 double plays while posting a fielding percentage of .966.

For his career in the maroon and gold Grasso will finish top-10 in multiple statistical categories for the maroon and gold including tied for fourth in games played (169); first in at-bats (690), hits (252), triples (13), and runs scored (198); second in RBI (177); tied for fifth in doubles (43); third in total bases (381); fourth in strikeouts (192); and third in saves with 10.

This is Grasso's 10th postseason accolade including being named to the All-American first team. He has garnered four separate first-team selections from a host of organizations, including ABCA/Rawlings. Grasso also has picked up Player of the Year honors from four separate entities including ABCA/Rawlings just earlier this week.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school.
