Get loud and proud because it’s Gold Rush 2012 at Salisbury University

SALISBURY, Md. – Anyone can show up at a game to cheer on the team, but it takes a real fan to show up to five events during the week in their gold to support Salisbury University athletics! That’s what we’re look for from you during Gold Rush 2012, starting this Tuesday when a top-ranked team comes to Salisbury and culminates with the Route 13 Rivalry.

Tuesday night, the Salisbury volleyball team (4-0) will open the doors of Maggs Physical Activities Center and kickoff the action in Gold Rush 2012 when it takes on No. 1 Christopher Newport University at 6:30 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the door will receive a Sammy the Sea Gull press-on tattoo.

It will also be the first giveaway to Salisbury University students of free Gold Rush T-shirts. The first 50 students to enter, with a valid student I.D., will be given a T-Shirt.

The excitement continues when the men’s soccer team (2-0), coming off the Elmer Lord Classic championship, hosts Eastern Shore rival Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday at 4 p.m., with another 50 shirts given away at the gate to SU students.

Thursday night, under the lights of Sea Gull Stadium, the No. 4 field hockey team (2-0) will host No. 17 Christopher Newport, beginning at 6 p.m. Salisbury has won the last two meetings in the series by 1-0 scores, including an overtime thriller in the last meeting in Salisbury two years ago. Thursday’s first 50 students will again receive a T-shirt.

Friday will be a day of rest before Saturday’s final day of Gold Rush 2012, with the final two events. The women’s soccer team (2-0) will play their first game of 2012 at the SU Soccer Complex, taking on Shenandoah University, Saturday at 4 p.m., the first meeting between these two teams since 2000, with another 50 T-shirts up for grabs.

Saturday night, Gold Rush reaches its final event when the football team (1-0) will host Wesley College. The rivalry does not need added excitement, but it will get it in a match-up of top 10 teams. Salisbury enters the week ranked No. 7 in the nation and Wesley is No. 3 in the poll.

The first 250 SU students, with a valid I.D., will receive a special Gold Rush T-shirt.
