Video: Women's cross country claims Cathcart title, men finish third
The Salisbury University men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted the Don Cathcart Invitational at Winter Place Park on Saturday, September 29 with the women collecting a victory and the men taking third. The win for the women was their second this season, having also won their season opening event, the Salisbury University Fall Classic, hosted at Winter Place Park, as well. Junior Ashley Mazer led the way for the Sea Gulls, finishing the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:02 for a fifth-place finish. Carly Sniffen and Liana Foianini finished in succession, with Sniffen crossing the line in 23:10 to place seventh with Foianini five seconds behind. Salisbury’s top five was closed out by sophomore Catie Cambon, in a time of 23:21 and Christine Sturm in 23:26. The men took a third place finish behind only Stevenson University and Division II Wilimington University, as senior Conner Masteran led the way with his best career run at Winter Place Park. Masteran charged for a strong finish, but could not chase down Stevenson’s Langston Gash, settling for a second place finish in 25:12 – the fastest time by a Sea Gull on the Winter Place course in seven years. Sophomore Mason Kimbell placed 10th in a time of 26:13 while freshman Jack Finnerin scored a 21st-place finish in 27:05. Senior Emmanual Porquin and freshman Ian Hinson finished Salisbury’s top five to finish, crossing the line in 27:09 and 27:38, respectively. The Sea Gulls are on the road for their next meet at the Hood College Invitational in Frederick, Maryland on October 13.
