Masteran, Mazer sweep CAC cross country honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly cross country awards on Tuesday and the Salisbury University men's and women's teams swept the Athlete of the Week honors.

Senior Conner Masteran was named the CAC Men's Runner of the Week and junior Ashley Mazer was named the CAC Women's Runner of the Week for their performances at the Don Cathcart Invitational this past Saturday.

Masteran completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:12 to take second place in the event, making a late push in the final meters, but being held off by Stevenson University's Langston Gash. Masteran's time helped the Sea Gulls to a third-place finish in the team event and is the fastest time by a Sea Gull on the Winter Place Park Course since 2011.

Mazer placed fifth in the women's race, completing the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:02. She was the third Division III student-athlete across the line in the event as the Sea Gulls dominated the race winning by nearly 40 points. It marked the second time this season that the women's team has won at home, also claiming the Salisbury University Fall Classic title to begin the season.

The Sea Gull runners will compete in their final regular season meet at the Hood College Invitational in Frederick, Maryland on Saturday, October 13.
