Men's cross country captures Gettysburg Invitational; women finish fifth

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 28th annual Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday morning. The men's team captured the invitational while the women finished fifth.


The Sea Gulls placed first out of 24 teams, recording 51 total points for the 8k race. Three different Salisbury runners finished in the top 10 led by Billy Kirk who finished fourth. Kirk completed the course with a time of 26:09.5 to lead all Sea Gull runners. Connor Hesselbirg and Conner Masteran rounded out the top-10 finishers placing ninth and 10th respectively. Hesselbirg posted a time of 26:20.6 while teammate Masteran came one second after him posting a time of 26:21.7.

Freshman Michael Weber finished just two seconds behind Masteran, posting a time of 26:23.0 to place 11th. Fellow freshman Branson Oduor rounded out the top-20 finishers for Salisbury placing 17th overall. Oduor completed the 8k race in a time of 26:32.1.

Dylan Smiley and Dan Stretz rounded out the top-seven finishers for the Sea Gulls placing 24th and 34th respectively. Smiley posted a time of 26:54.8 while Stretz finished with a time of 27:14.3.


Salisbury racked up 105 points to finish fifth overall out of 25 teams. The Sea Gulls averaged a time of 24:11.9 per runner.

Alison Schwartz was Salisbury's only top-10 finisher in the 6k race finishing 10th overall. Schwartz posted a time of 23:43.8 to finish seven seconds ahead of her closest teammate. Freshman Abby Potter posted a time of 23:50.2 to finish in 11th.

Sophomore Jamie Farley rounded out the Sea Gulls top-25 finishers, coming in 22nd place and crossing the finish line in a time of 24:15.3. Jessica Lane and Christine Sturm finished two places apart placing 30th and 32nd respectively. Lane finished with a time of 24:34.6 while Sturm came in exactly one second behind her teammate with a time of 24:35.6.

Jill Ciritella and Carly Sniffen rounded out the top-seven finishers placing 38th and 43rd. Ciritella posted a time of 24:45.2 while Sniffen came in with a time of 24:52.4.

Salisbury will turn its attention to preparations for the Captial Athletic Conference Championships on October 29. They will be held in Hershey, Pa. and are scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
