CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the DeSales University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning. The women's team placed seventh while the men's team finished third.
Alison Schwartz, Abby Potter, and Jamie Farley paced the Sea Gulls, all finishing in the top 50. Schwartz led all Salisbury finishers crossing the finish line in a time of 23:26 with an average mile time of 6:17 to place 32nd. Potter finished just 10 seconds behind her teammate coming in with a time of 23:46 to take 41st. Potter averaged a mile time of 6:22 on the difficult course. Farley rounded out the Sea Gulls in the top 50 finishers, placing 49th finishing in a time of 24:12.
Christine Sturm and Jill Ciritella rounded out the top-five finishers for Salisbury placing 57th and 63rd respectively. Farley finished the 6k race with a time of 24:19 averaging a pace of 6:31. Meanwhile, teammate Ciritella finished just 11 seconds behind Farley posting a time of 24:30.
Overall, the Sea Gulls finished with a time of 2:00.13 and earned 242 points. Salisbury will return to this course on November 12 for the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship.
Four Salisbury runners placed in the top 25 while two of those runners placed in the top 10 to earn the third place finish in the 8k race. Senior Connor Hesselbirg was the top finisher among all Sea Gulls placing sixth with a time of 25:55. Billy Kirk crossed the finish line just three seconds behind his teammate with a time of 25:58 to place eighth.
Malcolm Milton, Branson Oduor, and Conner Masteran all finished within a 16 second span of each other to place 19th, 24th, and 28th, respectively. Milton posted a time of 26:25 averaging a mile time of 5:19 to finish third among all Salisbury runners. Oduor rounded out the top-25 finishers for the Sea Gulls finishing in a time of 26:33. Masteran finished just eight seconds behind Oduor crossing the finish line in a time of 26:41 while averaging a mile time of 5:22.
Overall, the Sea Gulls totaled 85 points finishing 10 points behind the second place team and CAC opponent York College (Pa.), who scored 75 points on the afternoon. Salisbury posted an overall team time of 2:11.32.
Salisbury will return to action on October 15 as it competes in the Gettysburg Invitational starting at 10 a.m.
