YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced the first all-conference teams of the 2015-16 year, and Salisbury University picked up five honors on the men's and women's cross country teams, led by men's Rookie of the Year, Billy Kirk.
Kirk was the first rookie across the line at the CAC championship, held last Saturday, October 31, at St. Leonard, Maryland, placing 12th overall, which also earned him second-team All-CAC honors. The freshman is the sixth Sea Gull men's runner to collect the Rookie of the Year award, and the first to do so since 2010.
Kirk helped Salisbury to a third-place team finish at the event and is joined on the all-conference team by junior Connor Hesselbirg and sophomore Malcolm Milton. The pair came across the finish line together, with Milton placing seventh and Hesselbirg in eighth, giving both runners first-team All-CAC accolades.
On the women's side, Salisbury was led by freshman Jamie Farley and senior Laura Hartman, who placed 15th and 16th, respectively, to help Salisbury to a fourth-place team finish. For their efforts, Farley and Hartman were both named to the All-CAC Second Team. They are the first Sea Gulls to earn All-CAC honors on the women's side since 2012.
The all-conference awards are the first in the careers of all five Sea Gulls.
Salisbury is preparing for its next race, traveling to Newville, Pennsylvania for the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday, November 14.
