Jones receives Wicomico County's Outstanding Community Volunteer Award

SALISBURY, Md. – The year of 2010 was an outstanding one for Salisbury University Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach Jim Jones, as he piloted all four programs to a Capital Athletic Conference victory.

Despite all the success, Jones was not too busy to give some of his time to the community, and for his efforts he was recently awarded the Outstanding Community Volunteer Award by Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism.

The County reached out to Jones to assist in coordinating a 5K race on Thanksgiving Day 2009 at Pemberton Park to raise money for educational programs. He jumped right in and helped the first-time event raise more than $1,600 for the park's educational programs.

Jones also coordinates a summer 5K series at Winterplace Park to raise scholarship money for disadvantaged youth and senior programs. Over the last four years, this series has raised nearly $3,000.

The Outstanding Community Volunteer Award is given to an individual that has made significant contributions to the quality of life and leisure opportunities in Wicomico County.
