Barnard earns Salisbury's first CAC Athlete of the Week award for fall season

YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University cross country teams opened up their season on Saturday, Sept. 4 in the Sea Gull Opener, and with great success. One of those successes came from senior Chris Barnard, who on Wednesday was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his efforts in Salisbury's season-opening meet.

Barnard led his Sea Gulls to a second-place finish in the meet, posting a time of 26:07. His time earned the Olney, Md., native third place overall, and he was the first CAC runner to cross the finish line. This is Barnard's third CAC Athlete of the Week award, as he earned the honor twice in 2009.

Additionally, this week's award marks the first CAC honor of the fall season for all of Salisbury athletics.

Salisbury will be on the road for its next meet, the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, on Sept. 18. The Sea Gulls' next home meet, the annual Don Cathcart Invitational, will take place on Oct. 2 at 9:45 a.m. at Winterplace Park.
