Five Sea Gulls land spots on All-CAC Men's Cross Country Team

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference officially announced its 2009 All-Capital Athletic Conference teams and the Salisbury University men's cross country team had five runners honored. This season's additions give the SU men's cross country program 79 All-CAC honorees since the 1995 season. SU joined the conference in 1993 for cross country.

The men's team has put together another outstanding season as the Sea Gulls placed second at the CAC championships. SU had three men named to the All-CAC first team in senior Travis Boccher (Columbia, Md.), junior Chris Barnard (Olney, Md.) and freshman Stephen Berstler (Chester, N.J.). Berstler led all SU runners with a third-place finish (27:13) while Barnard finished fourth (27:17) and Boccher was sixth (27:28). Since 1995, SU now has had 43 runners named to the All-CAC first team.

This is the second consecutive season that both Barnard and Boccher have been honored to the All-CAC first team. Berstler made the most of his rookie campaign as the freshman used a third-place finish (27:13) at the conference championships to land him CAC Men's Rookie of the Year honors.

The Sea Gulls were also well represented on the All-CAC second team as sophomores Trevor Keen (Crownsville, Md.) and David Toller (Columbia, Md.) were honored. Keen paced SU at the CAC Championships with an 11th-place finish (27:55) while Toller finished in 15th (27:50).

The five All-CAC recipients extend the list of accolades received by the Sea Gulls this season. SU has recieved four CAC Runner of the Week awards this season, as three different players have been honored. Barnard received two distinctions (Sept. 29 and Oct. 27) while Boccher (Sept. 9) and Keen (Sept. 17) each were named once.
