SU women's cross country team earns All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS - The Salisbury University Sea Gulls earned 2007 NCAA Division III USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday, February 26. Salisbury posted a 3.24 cumulative grade point average this year.

The Sea Gulls finished second in the Capital Athletic Conference championships this season and placed seven student-athletes on the all-conference team. Salisbury is joined by CAC foe Hood College (3.46 GPA) on this year's USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team. Hamline University had the highest overall team grade point average (3.74) and Amherst (3.64) was named the Team of the Year.

An unbelievable total of 141 Division III women's programs received the USTFCCCA's All-Academic Team honors this year compared to 112 schools from last season. Just over a third of all Division III institutions (390) who sponsor women's cross country received the honor. In addition, 30 of the 32 teams in the championship field at this year's NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet.  The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average.
