Sep 8, 2007 Graves wins Towson Invitational, Sea Gulls place third in both racesCOCKEYSVILLE, Md. - The Salisbury University
cross country program had a strong showing at the Towson University
Invitational on Saturday morning as the Sea Gulls finished third in
both the men's and women's races. SU was the highest Division III
school to finish as the majority of both races featured Division I
schools.
Senior Eric Graves won the men's five mile race
with a time of 26:45. Fellow senior Buck Stokes
was the next Gull to finish as he crossed the finish line 17th with
a time of 28:03. Right behind Stokes was junior Zack
Dickerson in 19th place (28:08) followed by junior
Ben Thomas (29th place - 28:49) and freshman
Chris Barnard (30th place - 28:51). University of
Delaware's men's team won the 12 school race with 26 points. The
Blue Hens finished second, third, fourth, fifth and 12th. The U.S.
Naval Academy finished second with 55 points followed by the Gulls
with 86 points. The Midshipmen edged out Salisbury last week at the
Sea Gull Opener 30-46.
On the women's side, Salisbury finished third out of 15 schools
with 97 points behind first place Towson (43 points) and second
place Delaware (50 points). Junior Kelly Sullivan
finished the 5K course ninth with a time of 19:23 and senior
Casey McInerny was 12th, 13 seconds behind
(19:36). Senior Zuzka O'Zwoldike was the other top
20 finisher for the Gulls as she finished 18th with a time of
20:02. Freshman Kristin Stromberg (29th place -
20:46) and senior Lauren DePaul (38th place -
21:05) were the other Sea Gulls that earned points for SU. Towson's
Katie Ogden won the women's race with a time of 18:47.
Salisbury heads north next week to the New York University
Invitational at Van Cortland Park with a 9 a.m. start time.
