1994 Season Review

1994 Season Recap

The 1994 Salisbury State University cross country teams had a successful year as the squads each qualified for the South/Southeast Regional Championships courtesy of a pair of second-place finishes at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships.

The SSU men had one member claim All-CAC first team honors in senior Jeff Hankins. Hankins, who was the reigning CAC Champion, finished in second place at the CAC Championships in a time of 28:39. The senior was only four seconds away from the top finish. The squad had four individuals claim All-CAC second team honors in junior Ryan McComas, sophomore Dave Oster, sophomore Jon Douglas, and senior Andrew Younkin. The Sea Gulls won one event, the SSU Tidewater Invitational, and placed second in three others. Hankins and McComas finished at the top of the SSU pack all season as they led the Sea Gulls in four races apiece. Hankins finished second at the regional meet to earn a berth into the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, where he finished in 68th.

The SSU women put together an outstanding season as well. The women picked up first or second-place honors in six meets as freshman Lori Frei won four of those individually. Frei made the most of her first collegiate season being that she led the Sea Gull women in all but one race on the year. Frei finished second at the CAC Championships as she finished just five seconds behind the winner. Her strong showing distinguished her with All-CAC first team honors and earned her a spot into the regional meet. SSU had one other member named to the first team in sophomore Kelly Delp, who finished sixth. The women had two runners named to the All-CAC second team in sophomores Vicki Huchko and Rebecca Bell.
