1990 Season Recap

1990 Season Recap

Through the words of former Salisbury State University men's and women's cross country coach, Jerry Thomas:

As I look back on the 1990 cross country season, I am proud of the various team accomplishments as well as the outstanding individual efforts on the part of sophomore Tim Smith and junior Erin Green. The foundation for a very successful future has now been laid and the excitement for the 1991 season has already begun. The women's team finished the season with the most wins in school histroy at 15-12 while the men ended with an impressive 5-1 mark.

The highlights of the 1990 campaign started with the season debut at Montgomery College where the SSU women captured first place honors and the men's squad gathered a second place showing. The season progressed with the women capturing second place finishes at the Tidewater Invitational and the ESAC Championships as well as both teams taking home a dual meet victory over Goucher College.

The men's team was led by Smith, who was one of the top runners in the nation. He led our pack on a consistant basis while also earning All-Mason-Dixon honors. The women were led by a trio of runners although non shined brighter than Green. Green opened up the record books as she was named to the All-Mason-Dixon Conference and All-ESAC. Green was named ESAC Player of the Week as well as SSU Athlete of the Week.

With the entire squad returning next season, the '91 squad promises to be both exciting and one of the best ever assembled at SSU. As we approach next season with enthusiasm, we can look back on 1990 as a learning but successful season.
