LANCASTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University volleyball team split its matches on Saturday, the second and final day of the F&M Scramble, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College.
The Sea Gulls (7-5) started their day with a 3-1 win against Stevenson University before dropping a decision by the same score against Eastern University.
Match 1: Salisbury 3, Stevenson 1
After narrowly dropping the first set of the contest against the Mustangs, 25-23, the Sea Gulls powered back with 25-17, 25-17, and 25-15 set wins to collect the victory. Senior Katie Stouffer led the way with 13 kills and four digs. Freshman Hailey Dougherty posted 12 digs and six kills in the effort.
Senior Shannon Russell posted a team-high 24 digs to go with her pair of service aces. Russell, along with four Sea Gulls, contributed to notch a collective eight service aces in the win.
Match 2: Eastern 3, Salisbury 1
The maroon and gold put together a valiant effort against undefeated Eastern University, taking the first set 25-22 before narrowly dropping the second set, 26-24. Eastern dug its heels in and took 25-12 and 25-21 victories in the third and fourth sets to earn the win.
Salisbury will look to add to its win column on Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24 as it travels to Washington, D.C. for the Gallaudet Tournament. The Gulls will face Misericordia University and Gallaudet University on Friday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
