YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University volleyball team is getting set to begin its 2014 season on Friday, and in the first-ever Capital Athletic Conference preseason volleyball coaches' poll, the Sea Gulls were voted No. 2 in the conference with 71 points and one first-place vote.
After finishing last season with a 29-6 record and an appearance in the conference championship game, the Gulls will be led this season by sophomore Katie Stouffer and seniors, Michelle Meehan and Julie Poston. Stouffer and Poston finished the year second and third on the team with 334 and 276 kills, while Meehan led the team and the conference with 578 digs.
Salisbury came in 10 points behind first-ranked Christopher Newport University, which garnered nine first-place votes, after winning the CAC championship last season.
The top five was rounded out by No. 3 University of Mary Washington (63 points), No. 4 St. Mary's College of Maryland (50 points), and No. 5 Marymount (Va.) University (49 points).
The Sea Gulls will take the court for the first time on Friday at 4 p.m., with their first game of this weekend's tournament against Stevens Institute of Technology at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
