SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team opened a stretch of three home matches on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Goucher College, 25-12, 25-19, 25-12, at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
With a 4-3 lead in the first set, junior Mattie Smith registered her second kill and sparked a big, 16-5, run for the Gulls, allowing SU (23-4) to take a 20-8 lead.
Binetti and Stouffer, who led with five kills in the set, both had three kills in the run, while junior Kirby Buttry added two.
Sophomore Jordan Lawson grabbed the final kill in the run, before the Gulls would go on to take the 1-0 lead.
The second set remained closer through the first half of the frame, as Goucher led 11-10, before Salisbury would go on a 13-5 run to take the lead for good.
Junior Julie Poston started the run with a kill that tied the set, while Buttry registered three kills to lead the run.
Poston and Binetti accounted for the final two kills of the stretch, before Poston would end the set with her third kill of the set.
The Gophers took a 1-0 lead in the third set, but kills from Smith and Weems gave Salisbury a lead that it would not relinquish on the way to its win.
The Gulls led 5-4 before going on a 7-0 run to grow its lead, powered by two kills from Stouffer.
SU continued to build its lead, including a 6-0 run that featured a kill from Smith and three-straight service aces by freshman Krista Pecenka on the way to the 3-0 sweep.
Salisbury will continue its home stretch on Thursday with a Capital Athletic Conference matchup with Penn State University-Harrisburg at Maggs PAC; the match is set for 7 p.m.
