OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior Carley Todd posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 21 assists and 16 digs as the Salisbury University volleyball team defeated Stevenson University, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18), in Capital Athletic Conference action at Owings Mills Gym Wednesday.
The win is the Sea Gulls' sixth consecutive as they improve to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in conference.
Junior Kelly Vieira tallied 10 kills and 15 digs for a double-double of her own while classmate Chelsea Glowacki recorded a team-high 11 kills. Kristin Jehle added seven kills while hitting a team-best .294 for the match.
A Vieira kill gave SU its first lead of the match at 16-15 in the first game and the Gulls led by as many as three on four different occasions before wining the game on a sophomore Sam Seifert kill.
Stevenson (12-2, 2-1) scored 10 of the first 15 points of the second game but Salisbury rallied to tie it at 18-18 with a Samantha Perillo ball-handling error, taking the lead for good with a Vieira kill.
Trailing, 23-18, in the third game, the Mustangs forced a fourth game with a 7-0 run which included five kills.
Stevenson was led by Avery Gabbard with 16 kills and Jessica Gieselman with 39 assists and 16 digs.
SU is back in action at the York (Pa.) College Tournament beginning Friday. The Sea Gulls face The University of Rochester at 3 p.m., followed by Moravian College at 7 p.m.
