SU volleyball opens with two wins at Battlefield Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's volleyball team opened the season with a pair of wins over King's College, 3-0, and Gettysburg College, 3-1, in the Battlefield Classic Friday.

The Sea Gulls (2-0) defeated King's by scores of 25-9, 25-8 and 25-15 and host Gettysburg, 25-17, 25-16, 17-25 and 26-24.

Against King's (0-2), sophomore Sam Seifert totaled a team-high six kills while junior Chelsea Glowacki finished with four kills and four block assists.

Senior Lindsey Saltzman directed the offense with a team-leading 12 assists.

SU received solid contributions from a number of players in the victory versus Gettysburg  (1-1). Junior Carley Todd recorded 25 assists, nine kills and six block assists. Fellow junior Jenna Shay registered nine kills, eight block assists and one solo block.

Junior Kelly Vieira also chipped in with 13 digs, seven kills and six block assists.

Freshman Michelle Meehan tallied a match-high 15 digs against the Bullets on her first day of collegiate competition.

SU closes the 15-team event with a pair of matches on Saturday. The Gulls face the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at 10 a.m. and Rivier College at 2 p.m.
