Salisbury makes sixth NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing CAC Championship
INDIANAPOLIS - After collecting the Capital Athletic Conference's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament field on Saturday night, the Salisbury University volleyball team found out Monday morning just where it will be headed as the NCAA Volleyball Committee announced the brackets for the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Salisbury will travel to New York City for an eight-team regional, beginning Thursday, hosted by New York University.
The Sea Gulls have drawn the City College of New York for their opening-round match. The teams met just over a week ago with Salisbury collecting a resounding three-set win, 25-13, 25-20, 25-18, on Oct. 30 at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) College.
The winner of Thursday's first-round match will move on to the winner of SUNY New Paltz and Roger Williams University. That match is scheduled for Friday.
The other side of the bracket features a first-round match between Christopher Newport University and Stevens Institute of Technology, as well as a match between host NYU and Polytech (N.Y.).
The Sea Gulls are making their sixth overall NCAA tournament appearance. Last season, Salisbury beat Richard Stockton, 3-0, in the first round of the tournament; it was the Sea Gulls' first ever NCAA tournament victory.
